About us
Department of Chemistry is a subdivision of the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek.
The mission of the Department of Chemistry is to create and maintain the programme for excellence in all areas of research, education, and public services in chemistry and related disciplines, by establishing the Department as a desirable place to study on the regional, national, and European scale.
The study programmes at the Department are organized according to the “3+2” concept, which includes a three-year undergraduate university study programme, followed by a two-year graduate university study programme. The second level is represented by two graduate university study programmes – specialized in teaching and research. The students at the Department of Chemistry, at all levels of the study programmes, are provided with the opportunity to acquire international experience within similar study programmes in Croatia and in the European Union to strengthen professional relationships and collaboration in the current study and future employment.
The scientific activity of the Department of Chemistry is based on fundamental, applied, and developmental research in the area of natural sciences, scientific fields of Chemistry, and interdisciplinary sciences. The scientists from the Department of Chemistry are continuously participating in domestic and international projects to form efficient joint cooperation networks to connect the educational process with the scientific-research activities, as well as with the current industrial challenges.
There are two institutes established at the Department of Chemistry: Institute for Analytical, Organic, and Applied Chemistry and Institute for General and Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Teaching Methods in Chemistry.
